Penn Club Spin-A-Thon

12 Hours of Spin in 2012

HELP - Do Something Worthwhile

You are invited to join us for the Penn Club's second annual Spin-a-thon fundraiser to benefit PENN's Abramson Cancer Center (ACC), a LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center of Excellence.

           When: Wednesday April 18th, 7am-7pm

Where: Penn Club of New York, 12th Floor (Palestra Fitness Center)

The ACC of the University of Pennsylvania is a national leader in cancer research, patient care, and education.  Each gift provides Penn's Abramson Cancer Center, one of the premier cancer institutions in the country, with the necessary resources to provide leading edge research and the very best in cancer care to patients and their families from the Greater Philadelphia region and beyond.  This is a critically important time for cancer research, with our more than 500 doctors and scientists working every day to create innovative cancer research advances in cancer genetics, cancer vaccines, new surgical and imaging techniques, and targeted therapeutics.

Our Goal

In our first year in 2011, we raised a total of $6,460. Our 2012 goal is to raise at least $10,000 to benefit the Abramson Cancer Center at Penn, a LIVESTRONG Survivorship Center of Excellence.

How To Participate

Step 1: Register to Spin

We invite you, your friends, family and co-workers to come to the Penn Club for this epic event.  You do not need to be a Penn Club member to participate and come in for a spin. Please contact the Penn Club Fitness Center at 212.403.6623 or email at healthclub@pennclubny.org to reserve your time block (in 30 minute blocks) you wish to spin.  We are asking for people to donate or raise a minimum of $30 for each 30 minute block.  Our goal is to have at least 1 spin bike going the entire day in support of the ACC and those affected by cancer.

Step 2: Donate Online

Your most impactful contribution to the fundraiser is your donation (and getting others to donate too!).

Please visit the link below to donate and help spread the word.  (The tax ID for PENN is 23-1352685)

Choose "in honor of" and enter Penn Club Spin a thon.

The Penn Club will also be collecting checks which you can drop off at the Palestra Fitness Center on the 12th floor of the Clubhouse.  Please make checks payable to "Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania".

If you prefer to mail your check, the address is:

            Abramson Cancer Center Development Office
            Survivorship Program Fund
            3535 Market Street, Suite 750
            Philadelphia, PA 19104

We are in the midst of securing some fabulous raffle items (e.g. a Trek bike and a poster signed by Lance Armstrong!) for our fundraising raffle this year. If you have any valuable items that you wish to donate to the raffle, please email membership@pennclubny.org. Visit this page as we get closer to April 18th to learn more about this year's raffle items that you might be interested in bidding on!

Step 3: Obtain Sponsors

Make a greater impact on your fundraising efforts! Download your sponsorship ticket and email/give it to your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you as a rider. We encourage you to create a personal goal and tell your friends that you are trying to raise the amount of your goal e.g. $1,000. The sponsorship ticket also provides information for you to take advantage of corporate matching programs.

Step 4: Spread the Word

Email and tell everyone you know that you are participating in the Penn Club Spin-a-thon and encourage them to visit this web page: www.pennclub.org/spinathon to learn more. They can join in as a rider (step 1), donate directly online (step 2), sponsor you to ride (step 3) and/or tell yet others they know about this fundraising effort (step 4).

Thank you for helping to make a difference.

Looking Back: 2011's Spin-a-thon

We reached the goal of having at least 1 spin bike going through the enter 12 hour period from 7am through 7pm and had quite a few other riders join in the spin-a-thon to get several bikes going simultaneously. The total raised far from the spin-a-thon was $3,310. The silent auction of the autographed jerseys raised an additional $3,150 (total bids for all 4 jerseys) with a grand total of $6,460. Thank you for all who participated in 2011 and making a meaningful contribution to PENN's Abramson Cancer Center. We hope that all who participated in 2011 will participate again in 2012, help spread the word, and get more people you know to participate.

Many people are counting on your donations and support! If you haven't already donated, please do so today.
