Benjamin Franklin Living Room
The foyer leads directly to the Franklin Living Room. Comfortable couches and chairs mark the five seating areas of this English brown oak-paneled room, where members can enjoy afternoon tea or cocktails with friends. A full-color, leaded-glass window of the University seal, created as a memorial for Penn track star Samuel Heebner Terry, C'06, is the centerpiece of the skylight that illuminates the antique carpets, distinguished woodwork and red and blue fabrics. Bookshelves hold the Club Library, with its outstanding works by Penn faculty and alumni; histories and yearbooks of the
University; the books of the University Press and newspapers and periodicals.
This room honors Benjamin Franklin with a casting of the "Young Franklin" statue, created by acclaimed University professor and sculptor R. Tait McKenzie, that stands in front of Weightman Hall. This beloved living room library is often cited as a key reason why members join The Penn Club -- simply to have the benefit of enjoying this room.
